Yellow Iris Planted In Shady Sandy Soil

Yellow Iris

I had an area in my garden where nothing grew.
The soil was very sandy, and a big maple tree completely shaded it.
The solution?
Irises.
They grow before the leaves fill out on the tree.
After blooming, I cut off the heads (very blood thirsty sounding)
and leave the broad, wide leaves for decoration.

Thanks for the tip on the Iris’ Kimber.

I can think of a spot that they would work well for me. I’m not much of a gardener so I like the easy, low maintenance way. ;)
