One thing that surprised (and disappointed) me
was that unlike at the Venetian in Vegas
or any Hollywood movie,
the gondaliers in Venice don’t sing.
Oh, I’m told they could sing
(though passengers have to search
for one that does)
but at an additional charge.
Since I heard of passengers paying
150 Euro plus for an hour ride,
I understand why most
don’t pay the additional.

As frugal travelers,
we were a bit concerned about Venice.
We heard it had a reputation
for being expensive
(though we doubted it could compare to Tokyo).
Ummm… no.
Aside from our travel card
and not being able to resist the gelato,
we were quite content wandering the streets,
seeing the sights,
and not spending an additional Euro.
Don’t let Venice’s reputation scare you.
