The War Drawing Room, Versailles
The War drawing room was formerly known
as the king’s cabinet.
It celebrates Louis XIV’s victories over
the allied forces
(the Empire, Spain and Holland)
during the war with Holland
and the treaty which ended it
with the Peace of Nimeguen.
The large medallion (shown)
by Coysevox
shows the king’s crossing of the Rhine.
Two prisoners in chains hold it up.
