My favorite room in Versailles
is the Hall Of Battles.
This is a huge gallery,
394 feet long and 43 feet wide
and takes up two storeys of the south wing
(or Princes’ wing).
Louis-Philippe gathered paintings
depicting some of the great victories in French history,
ranging from the victory of Clovis at the battle of Tolbiac in AD 496
to the Battle of Wagram won by Napoleon in 1809.
Busts and bronze plaques bear the names of princes
who died in action.
