The King’s Private Cabinets (Not Pictured)

Above the King’s Private Apartment, there are a suite of rooms spread out over several floors which were the private domain of Louis XV and Louis XVI. Their purpose and decor changed several times according to the King’s whim. These rooms include the Library and its annexes, the Geography and Physics Cabinets, the dining rooms, Games Room and Petite Galerie (replaced by apartments made for those priviledged to share the King’s privacy). Some apartments still bear the name of the King’s favorites such as the Madame du Barry room (Louis XV’s paramour) and the apartment of Louis XVI’s minister Maurepas.
