Water Parterre, Versailles
The Water Parterre
Walking down the steps of the terrace,
you reach the Parterre d’Eau or Water Parterre.
The parterre owes its name to two rectangular ponds
surrounded by bronze statues.
Cast by the Kellers from 1683 and 1690
after the greatest artists of the time
(Coysevox, Tubi, Le Hongre, and Regnaudin),
the statues represent the main rivers and streams of France.
