Barcelona With Christopher Columbus Monument

The Christopher Columbus Monument located at the bottom of La Rambla (that famous street) by the water is one of the most famous landmarks in Barcelona. It was erected for the 1888 World Exposition and stands on the site where Columbus returned to Spain after his first voyage to the New World. The statue, sculpted by Rafael Atché, is said to show Columbus pointing towards the New World with his right hand (with a scroll in his left) However, it doesn’t. The statue points east (rather than west) towards his home city of Genoa.
