The drain

This is the original Roman drain which still takes the hot water from the Spring to the river Avon a few hundred metres away.

You can see the water from the Great Bath rejoining the drain here.

Several Roman man-holes gave access to the drain for maintenance.

The flow from the Spring is a constant 13 litres per second (which amounts to 1,170,000 litres a day).
