Visitor information in Roseau is easily found right across from the cruise terminal. It is well worth a visit, simply for the displays alone. The helpfulness of the employees was wonderful also. We visited Dominica this second time on a rainy, windy day. The hubby asked about snorkling and the employee was upfront and honest, advising that visibility was poor and there were other things he might wish to do in Dominica. She gave us a list of sites to see on a budget and directed us to transportation.

Behind the building is a craft market, handy if you’re looking for little trinkets and post cards.

Building History

This building originally served as the Market House for the old Roseau Market place. It was constructed in 1811 on the site of an earlier wooden building dating from 1765. The offices of the town and market wardens were upstairs. This lower floor was a fish market and boats were dragged from the beach right into the building. Later it served as Dominica’s first General Post Office, and as the fire station and town council offices. In 1995 it was turned into the Visitor Information Centre and Dominica Museum.
