On the cruise ship,
employees will try to sell you (expensive) bottled water.
The frugal traveler knows
there is filtered water supplied in glasses
at any bar or food station.
As on the ship,
any other beverages require payment
(they put the charge on the ship account).
There is no need to return to the ship for lunch.
Royal Caribbean offers a great barbecue
for free
on the Cay.
The watermelon goes very, very quickly.

Along with snorkeling (poor) and swimming,
visitors to Coco Cay can
kayak, parasail, scuba dive, and pilot Waverunners.
All of the later cost money.
The frugal traveler can play volleyball
(the hubby did for 5 hours and got a nasty burn),
basketball, sun bathe, and hike the nature trails.

What we were most interested in doing
at Coco Cay was snorkle.
We had our own gear
but they force snorklers to rent a vest
(a cash grab - there isn’t a need for one).
They hire snorkle police
whose sole duty is to whistle offenders
out of the water.
One way to get around the vest requirement
is not to use the snorkle (hold your breath)
and simply use your mask.
Or to snorkle in a more remote part of the Cay.
We were NOT impressed with the snorkling.
Very few kinds of fish
and it was so crowded, the sand got kicked up.
One other thing that irritated me
was that
they wouldn’t allow me to walk on the rocks.
