Montreal World Trade Center
The Montreal World Trade Center connects two fairly pricey hotels, the InterContinental Hotel (where the hubby stayed while on business) and the St. James Hotel, known as the ‘movie star hotel’ as it is the most expensive hotel in Montreal.
The atrium stands on what once was Fortification Lane. The old walls to the old city used to stand there (what locals call ‘Old Montreal’ with the cobble stone streets). They were built in the 18th century and torn down in the early 19th century when the city expanded.
Admission is, of course, free.

Montreal Museum Of Fine Arts (Musée des Beaux Arts)
The Montreal Museum Of Fine Arts is a must for the frugal art lover. The permanent display is free (although a donation is encouraged). There is an admission for the temporary displays housed in the building across the street (they have half price Wednesdays). It is the oldest art gallery in Canada, founded in 1860, and most of the impressive collection is made up of donations.

Ste-Catherine Street (or Rue Ste-Catherine) is one of the main shopping streets in Montreal. The intersection of Rue Ste-Catherine and St-Laurent Boulevard is the Quartier des Spectacles where the Jazz Festival and Just For Laughs Festival are held (many of those events are free, perfect for the frugal traveler). There are trendy bars and restaurants but most are quite pricey.
