The Forbidden City was a royal residence.
The yellow tile on the roof symbolizes royalty
while the red on the walls symbolizes happiness.
This lion is a male.
You can tell because his paw is on a ball (the symbol of Imperial power).
The female lion (the lions in the Forbidden City always being in pairs)
instead extends her paw as if to play with cubs (fertility).
One of the things I loved about Beijing
was how art could be found in the most unique of places.
This, if you can believe it, is a garbage can.
