Sea beasts mosaic
Fragment of a marine mosaic showing a dolphin and sea horses, probably 4th century AD.
The mosaic was found during excavations near Saw Close, Bath in 1859.

The Sacred Spring
The hot spring rises at a rate of 1,170,000 litres each day at 46.5 degrees C. The Romans used it to supply hot mineral water to the Baths. Offerings to the goddess Sulis Minerva were thrown into the Spring. A vaulted building enclosed the Spring in later Roman period.
The King’s Bath, which is visible today, was built in the 12th century AD.

The Roman Baths
The Roman Baths lie about fifteen feet below present street level and the remains of other Roman buildings extend beneath the City in all directions. The 16th century Abbey stands on the site of earlier cathedrals and may also overlie a pagan Roman temple.
