Musee Massena Of Art And History
is situated on La Promenade des Anglais
in Nice.
It focuses on the history of Nice and Europe
from the 11th to 19th century.
Especially noted is
the collection of authentic arms and armours
from Europe from the 15th to 19th centuries.
We didn’t go in (time was limited)
but we did admire
the 1898 Italianate neoclassical villa.
That was free and beautiful.

Le Monument du Centenaire (Centennial Monument)
is located on La Promenade des Anglais
in the corner of the Jardin Albert 1er.
It bears the dates 1793-1893,
and commemorates
declaring Nice a part of France.
Sculpted by Joseph Allar (1845-1925) ,
it is topped by Nikaïa,
the Greek goddess of victory and messenger of the gods.
The sculpture at the base
shows Nice embracing France.
Again, free for the frugal traveler to gaze at.

Further along the La Promenade des Anglais
in the L’Esplanade du Paillon ou Espace Massena
is a bronze sculpture of a Jaguar with a Hare.
Quite a bloodthirsty scene
but brilliantly rendered.
Again free for the frugal traveler to see.
