I cooked my head again
in Coba so definitely wear a hat
and bring water.
There is a local bus that drops you off
but this an easy day trip (via rental car)
from Cancun and the Mayan Riviera.
It is the closest major ruin site.
Contrary to what people will tell you,
you do NOT need an official guide.

In the ruins at Coba,
are two very well preserved ball courts.
We were told that this ancient game
involved two teams,
putting balls through the hoops
on the high slanted walls
and ended with human sacrifice.

The hubby did the trek up
the giant Nohoch Mul pyramid at Coba
while I snapped photos.
It is the tallest Mayan archaeological structure
on the Yucatan peninsula.
Well worth seeing
