Palace Square in Saint Petersburg is a quickie tour
in high end Russian architecture.
The Baroque Winter Palace is at the north,
the building housing the former Imperial Army General Staff is at the south
(with the Triumphal Arch),
the building of the former Royal Guards’ General Staff is at the east
and the Admiralty and the Admiralty Garden is at the west.
The Alexander Column graces the middle of the square.
Fantastic!

The Winter Palace is one home of the Hermitage
(it has multiple locations).
The Hermitage is a must see for any art lover
(that alone is worth a trip to Russia)
and the collection is a bit overwhelming.
Leave at least a day to explore.
Photography is allowed (yes, that was a shocker, most galleries don’t allow it)
but there is an extra charge.

I’m a big art lover so one of the places I had to visit
while in Russia was the Hermitage (not pictured).
The Hermitage has over 3 million items
and when we went, paintings were stacked against the wall
for visitors to flip through.
It was a surreal experience, flipping through masterpieces.
That alone was worth the trip to St. Petersburg.
