Santa Maria de Montserrat Black Virgin
The highlight of Santa Maria de Montserrat
is the Black Virgin,
a jewel covered icon.
However, to get to see it up close,
there is usually a long line up.
Why?
Because visitors are taken on
a tour of all the back rooms
before arriving at the Black Virgin.
This is slow going,
tight, stuffy quarters,
some narrow stairs,
but is worth it
because very, very few religious buildings
allow it.
