Walter “Plantz” William (94) was an avid local fisherman. This bust of him is found on the beach. It was placed where Williams could get to see it from his home, which is located a short distance from the pier. “Plantz” and his brother “Honey Boy” supplied residents with freshly caught fish, jacks and shrimps from the Fresh Pond.

We visited Philipsburg right after Christmas last year and some of the decorations were still up. Old Street especially did a wonderful job of decorating.

St. Martin Of Tours R.C. Church
The St. Martin of Tours Roman Catholic Church in Philipsburg, designed by architect G. Vetter was built between 1950 and 1952 by the Aruba Bouw Maatschappij and was supervised by Mr. Jan Nagel.
On Friday the 30th of May 1952, the new church was consecrated by Mgr. A. van Veen-Zeppenveldt and officially opened. The building is made of concrete and all windows have wooden storm shutters. The front side has a relief, depicting Saint Martin of Tours. The church bell was sent over from Curacao, where it had been removed from the St. Anna Cathedral.
The church was erected on the same spot where the first wooded church was built in 1844.
