Fort Fincastle (built 1793)
shaped like the bow of a ship is easy to find.
Simply look for the water tower (built 1928),
one of the taller buildings in Nassau.

The beach at Altantis in Paradise Island
is private (for patrons only)
but we wandered around
and no one gave us a rough time.

Sharks At Atlantis, Bahamas

Of course,
there are a lot of reef sharks
in the Predator Lagoon at Atlantis.

Supposedly, the grounds at Atlantis
are reserved for people staying
at the resort
but no one gave us a rough time
about wandering around.

The sawfish and sharks share
the Predator Lagoon at Atlantis
with different types of
rays.

Sawfish, a relative of sharks and rays,
can also be found in the predator lagoon.
They like to rest on the deep bottom
so
the best place to see them
(and to take photos)
is in the glass tunnel.

Hammerhead Sharks At Atlantis, Bahamas

Hammerhead sharks can be found
in the predator lagoon.
The big hammerheads were separated out
(they’re by the rope suspension bridge).
The babies were with the other smaller sharks.

Pavilion At Atlantis, Bahamas

There is a a 100-foot long
clear, underwater viewing tunnel
passing through the predator lagoon
to this pavilion.
This tunnel is NOT to be missed.
We were blown away by the variety of sealife.

The interior of Atlantis may not be all that
but the exterior is one of a kind.
We loved the Predator Lagoon
with the rope bridge.
Why is it called the Predator Lagoon?
Because the pool is filled with
sharks, stingrays, and other large fish.
Wonderful.

Having been in some of the most beautiful casinos
in the world
(Monte-Carlo, Vegas),
we weren’t that impressed with the interior of Atlantis.
They WERE easy going about dress code though
(the hubby wore shorts and a tee).

Now, the exterior, the exterior
is something to rave about.

Paradise Island Shops, Bahamas

Although they are clearly tourist traps
and not a real example of commerce in Bahamas,
the shops on Paradise Island
are quite beautiful.
A great place to sit on one of the benches
and people watch.
